Our trip so far!

We arrived in Ixmiquilpan on Wednesday, and got settled in.  Yesterday, we visited a school and distributed school supplies.  We were welcomed warmly by the children, maestros, and parents.  The school was in pretty good condition, comparatively, according to Ascary.

Today, we visited another school in El Tablon.  This school was in greater need of assistance.  We distributed school supplies and a small toy to about 100 elementary school children.  Our GC students then painted one of the classrooms.  We also had time to play some games with the children.  About 6 of the little girls danced for us.  Dr. Brown told us that this is not typical as the Otumi are generally shy around outsiders.  It was apparent that Vidas has gained their trust over the years.

Don´t have long at the internet cafe so I will hit some highlights:

The food is amazing, the coffee is strong and plentiful, and we are all adjusting to the culture.

Most of us have at one time or another wished we knew our Spanish!

Most of the students are suffering from varying levels of technology withdrawal - no cell phones and only daily internet access!

More soon - hopefully, we can post pics when we post next time.  If not, LOTS of pics when we return home!
